Why iron tablets often are not enough
If you have been taking iron for months and nothing has shifted, you are not doing it wrong. This is common, and there are good reasons for it.
Very little of it gets through
Only a small fraction of the iron in a tablet is absorbed. The rest passes straight through, which is also why tablets upset a lot of people’s stomachs.
It takes months, if it works
Rebuilding iron stores by mouth is slow going. If you are losing iron faster than you can absorb it, you never catch up.
