Why Functional Medicine Starts With the Root Cause

Interviewer: How would you describe functional medicine, and why is it central to your approach?

On the Go Drip: Functional medicine is a science-based approach to understanding why someone feels the way they do. Instead of stopping at a diagnosis, we look at the underlying factors contributing to symptoms so we can address the real cause.

Interviewer: How is that different from traditional symptom-based care?

On the Go Drip: Traditional medicine often focuses on managing symptoms or treating a disease process. Functional medicine looks deeper. One root cause can lead to multiple conditions, and one condition can have several underlying causes.

Interviewer: Can you give an example of that root-cause thinking?

On the Go Drip: Inflammation is a great example. We ask whether it’s contributing to arthritis, diabetes, heart disease, or something else entirely. With depression, we explore whether it could be related to thyroid function, gut disruption, vitamin deficiencies, or omega-3 levels.

Interviewer: Why does understanding the “why” matter so much for clients?

On the Go Drip: Without understanding the why, you’re just managing symptoms. When you treat the root cause, you gain clarity, confidence, and long-term progress instead of repeating the same cycle.
